FAQ
1. Where are GIA garments and accessories made?
All GIA garments are hand-knitted in Fray Bentos, Río Negro, Uruguay, by a network of local women artisans who master traditional crochet techniques. Our leather accessories are also handcrafted in Uruguay. We never industrialize or outsource any process.
2. What materials does GIA use?
We use 100% natural Uruguayan merino wool for our knitwear and locally sourced cowhide leather for accessories. Natural, renewable, biodegradable fibers.
3. Why merino wool?
Uruguayan merino wool is internationally recognized for its softness, durability and natural thermoregulation: it keeps you warm in winter and breathes in between seasons. It is also naturally antibacterial, so garments rarely need washing.
4. How do I care for my GIA garment?
We recommend professional dry cleaning. With care, they can also be hand-washed in cold water with neutral soap, dried flat in the shade, and stored folded — never on a hanger. Between wears, simply airing them out is enough: merino wool regenerates on its own.
5. How long does each garment take to make?
Each piece is knitted from start to finish by a single artisan: 5 to 7 days for sweaters, 10 days for the Alfonsina cardigan, and up to 15 days for the most complex pieces like Charlotte or the Alba ruana. That's why we work with limited stock — and no two garments are alike.
6. Where is the physical store?
Our store is at 18 de Julio 1580 Bis, Fray Bentos, Río Negro, Uruguay. Open Monday to Saturday, 10:00–12:30 and 17:00–19:30.
7. Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide from Uruguay. Costs and delivery times are calculated when you select your country at checkout.
8. How do I choose the right size?
Every product includes a detailed size chart, and you can also check our Size Guide. If in doubt, write to us and we'll help you choose based on your measurements.
9. Does GIA accept exchanges and returns?
Yes, we accept exchanges and returns within 15 days of receiving your order, as long as the garment is in original condition. See the full policy under "Exchanges and Returns".
10. Can I order a personalized or made-to-measure garment?

11. Do you sell wholesale?
Yes, we work with selected boutiques and stores in Uruguay and abroad. Write to us at wholesale@giastore.uy.
12. What is GIA's sustainability policy?
We are committed to slow fashion: low-impact local production, a single artisan per garment, fair trade with our network of knitters, and responsibly sourced natural materials. Every piece is made to last a lifetime.
13. Are the garments truly unique?
Yes. Each garment is knitted entirely by a single artisan and carries her hand, her rhythm and her story. No two pieces are identical.
14. How can I contact GIA?
